Is It Still Necessary To Submit To Major Search Engines?

In the recent months there has been a radical shift when it comes to search engine marketing. It is no longer necessary to submit to the big ones like in the past. Thanks to an intricate system of spiders that visit your sites -- getting indexed is easier than ever.

In fact, a lot of new sites are actually at a very unusual advantage as opposed to other sites. They will get indexed in a matter of hours after being put together. Since Google is always looking for new fresh content to post my advice to you would be to post and post often as possible. The rewards for doing so could prompt more spiders to come and re-index your pages.

CAN YOU GET INDEXED WEEKLY?
You can get indexed every few hours depending on how you are situated. This all depends on your network of blogs and new content that you add to your pages. You have to be somewhat of an articulate sort to play this game properly. But the good news is that you will be in control of whatever you create.

This can also backfire.

Lets say that you are smug and self satisfied with the first 5 pages that came with your site. If you ever do anything with your site it is only when you create new content on your existing pages. Lets say you write over your old content and republish your pages. This is not going to do much for your rankings or for your online presence. But this is exactly what a lot of companies do and this is not a great way to go.

On the flip side, take a look at what Microsoft does with their web site. It is a city more or less. Once you get inside of it there are many different ways you can go about finding information that you need. There are multiple pages for you to go through and get info on many levels. They have added on to it instead of rewriting over their existing pages. The overall effect is a giant infrastructure that takes up a great deal of space on the web.

A lot of large companies do it this way and they are smart. I would look them up and study how they put things together. SONY, JVC and SUN systems are great at creating large amounts of material that spiders can crawl through and index. You must learn to do the same.

Think on a higher level.

The Real Deal Behind Web Pages and PR

There is a great misconception about popularity among web pages. A recent conversation about web sites at lunch had my ears perk up with great alarm. It seemed that a number of people at my table believed that web pages all had individual web page rank - PR. That is to say that some pages could outrank other pages in PR rankings.

Oh boy.....

There is some truth that some pages can outrank others. But this has no bearing over their overall PR rankings. You see the web site itself has a PR ranking but not the individual pages. That is not to say that certain pages can outrank others but it has nothing to do with PR.

ON THE META LEVEL -- IT WORKS....
On a meta level some pages can outrank others. This has to do with a proper combination of keywords, titles, subtitles, body copy, and many other contributing factors not including keyword density. Think of your web pages on the same level of having a report card. Some pages come in at a 23% optimacy level while other pages border close to 100%.

When you can get enough of these to carry the proper keywords you are well on your way to doing great things. There is a great chance that your pages will start to outrank other pages in your marketplace. The levels of pages you are able to leap frog over number in the hundreds. When we put these elements in place and in the right order we were able to jettison over a monumental number of pages. We actually jumped up 2.1 - 2.5 million number of pages.

That is incredibly significant and well worth mentioning.

SEO: The Price Beaters

We are in a unique vocation. I think its one of the only ones where people call your place of business and anxiously blurt out, "I'm on a budget" or another one of my favorites, "Look, I'm broke"....

SEO TAKES TIME AND IS NOT CHEAP
If thats the case you know Goodwill actually sells computers these days. In fact, they even have an I.T. department. These people should ring them up. Who knows. Maybe they have a web department too.

I know for one, I am not running a digital soup kitchen.

But good SEO and Internet marketing is getting to be a very complex and precise science. Those who who have tread through the wilderness to find the fountain of functionality deserve credit and praise not to mention payment.

I cannot imagine going to a gas station with an empty tank and saying, "you know.. you got the gas, and my car is empty, ive been out of work and uhmmmmm......". Or walking into a grocery store empty handed and telling the cashier that you deserve food because.... you're hungry and in the neighborhood. Being an SEO and Internet Marketer is difficult. We get sob stories from people who really should go out and get jobs for a living.

Nobody makes you become an entrepreneur. You do it out of your own choice.

And becoming successful is an option. Its a choice you make. You don't have to do it.

Narrowcast Your Way To Prospects Hearts

As soon as I finished my article on narrowcasting the phone rang. It was for a speaking engagement on the subject. I was to appear in front of a business group talking about using the web to counter the costs of television and radio. Broadcasting is very expensive and it does have limits. Narrowcasting on the other hand uses the internet to probe deep into niche markets. This doesn't take nearly as much money to pull off.

WEB VIDEO - THE SECRET BACKDOOR
By narrowcasting you are selecting a niche group on the web to accept your web marketing message. This is a very powerful way to get in front of a lot of people quickly. There are some rules because its not the wild west -- but its just as good. You see a lot of video directories will not accept your commercials. I am referring to SpikeTV and Atom Films and a few others. But as I write this there are a ton of new video server groups out there who are waiting for your content.

If you know how to do this the right way you can literally unlock the door to many new opportunities. There is a floodgate of new prospects waiting to hear from you. You do not have to have polished looking pieces to snag someones attention.

Because of the nature of the Internet you only have to get thier attention. People will watch a really poor quality piece of video with only two edits for a full seven minutes. Now on TV you are lucky to get them to sit for 20 to 30 seconds. Most of the time the public will Tivo or hit the remote past your ad. On the web it is different and the people will stay if they find you remotely interesting.

GOOGLE ANALYTICS
We test everything we do. Our tests showed that by using Google Analytics that people will stay and watch a full 7 - 10 mintue clip no matter what the quality looks like. You do not have to be Hollywood quality to get their attention. You can capture the imagination of your public with very little effort.

Google Analytics is a great tool because you can see how long people will stay. You can tell where they go from one page to the next. Nobody was more suprised than me to see this whole thing unfold. If anything this encouraged me to push the limits to see what else I could get away with online.

And its only beginning.....

The Dangers Of Link Buying

Just a few days ago I wrote an article about link buying. Or I should say LINK RENTING. It appears that a lot of companies are letting you rent their links in any category. Needless to say that this is a very dangerous thing to do.

1. Because Google hates it

2. When you run out of money, you lose your PR status

PREPARE YOURSELF FOR THE COST
I was going to do this for myself and kicked the idea around. When I looked into it I was a bit surprised at what I'd found. Renting links for your web sites is not cheap. In fact you can burn a hole in your budget if you're not careful.

If you go ahead and do this anyway be prepared for the high fees. On one hand you are getting PR 10 and PR 8 links. But these are just as costly as PPC in the long run. You must wonder what the benefit is.

You can have great visibility.
People will see you in niche markets.
You will appear credible.

But is it worth trashing your site over?

The Power of Lumpy Mail

I hit a closed door seminar the other night and was discussing the power of sending "lumpy mail". You know, sending toys with your sales letters and other gimmicky things to get peoples attention. I have seen this done well and I've seen this done poorly.

You have to have a real eye grabbing headline and it has to tie into your letter thematically. For example someone send me a toy plastic race car to go with my letter. The sales piece begged me not to turn into someone who is in last place -- get it? It's cute but I am not sure its a really strong sales piece. I would like something with a bit more punch to it.

That is why I suggest you find your own style.

ITS AMAZING WHAT YOU CAN SEND THROUGH THE POST OFFICE
Always check out with the Post Office when it comes to sending something. The last thing you want to do is order special shipping containers and get stuck with them. I mean honestly, who wants to get stuck with 400 prescription bottles, (you can send these right through the US Postal Service.... honestly!). If you can put a stamp on it and stick a sales letter inside of it there is a good chance you can run this through the postal service.

That is where things get very interesting. I have seen the following arrive

at my business address:

* Mail Bags, (for cash deposits)
* Prescription Bottles

* Plastic Bottles
* Full Size - Poster Board, (8 X 11) w/ Fax In
* Containers - of all sizes

Having pieces rattle around inside the box is another good attention grabber. You have to be pretty innovative to get your mail opened and that is the key. These tactics might come off as a little foolish but at the end of the day all we want to do is get our material looked over.

Whats Up With Automated SEO Directory Programs

Getting your site positioned on the search engines takes a lot of sweat. There is a critical step that falls into place when you go for top search engine rankings. A lot of times this tends to get somewhat overlooked. Directory listings are critical for your online marketing campaign.

Breaking A Sweat - Doing It By Hand
You can manually put in all your infomation when it comes to getting your site indexed in directories. This can take you a long time depending on what you want to achieve. You will notice that finding directories in itself can take a long time. As with anything else you got great levels of service and some levels that are NOT so great. You will have to look and choose what ones work best for you.

Getting an automated program seems like the thing to do. This is where your job can get a bit more difficult. There are a lot of programs that fall into this category in the UK. They take this a lot more seriously in New Zealand, Australia and England. In the last few years I would say that the UK has a tremendous handle when it comes to online marketing. They have some areas of the US beat when it comes to Internet Marketing.

So getting a software program like this makes a lot of sense to me. There are several good ones out there. The real issue starts to take shape when you see the directory lists you are submitted to. A lot of these directories are Canadian and UK related. There are not too many blatant US directories included in the software package. This creates concern if you are a US based company.

Paying The Fee
Dealing with directories can get a bit expensive. It may not seem like it at first but $5 dollars here and $3 dollars there can get you a guaranteed inclusion. After a while this can start to add up. If you are like most small business owners I talk to you will take the risk and not go through with it. But this is a big mistake on your part if you decide to wimp out.

10% Of Your Web Traffic Is Search Engine Based

Yes, you read that right. So getting you site included in many directories is in your best interest. Take in for consideration that a lot of these directories are based on industry too. I could name you many examples of how I found hidden directories for industries I never knew existed. This becomes very powerful in the grand scheme of things.

True, there are other places traffic gets pulled in through too such as newsgroups, blogs, podcasts, social networks and many more. But for now lets keep this focussed on directories.

A lot of firms make the mistake of just submitting the index page to a directory. The free directories are surprisingly generous. They will allow you to submit more than one page to their directories for indexing. My suggestion is to find the directories that work out best for you and submit different pages to them periodically. It will take a while for them to get indexed and results will not appear overnight.

The Two Faces of Digital Video

Mass communications are taken aback by some of the new technology. Streaming online video that is used for emails and quick delivery. This is a very powerful system in these recent days. The company www.HELLOWORLD.COM tells me their business is booming all over the world.
Business has skyrocketed for these guys now more than ever. It seems everyone is eager to get with the high tech bandwaggon.

There are some very creative ways to build a brand using this technology. You can get in front of a lot of people using it this way. The other thing is that its like having your very own commercial for your products and services.

THE OTHER SIDE OF DIGITAL VIDEO
This is where it gets a little complicated. The way I am using digital video is to not only send out video emails but to also get my web pages grounded. That is to say I am using this technology to anchor my pages in my niche category. I also use it to geo target my services to a certain area. Sounds crazy but true.....

By combining SEO strategies and linking them through digital video pieces you can get just about any page indexed. You can also use it to effectively position yourself in just about any market. That is why using Digital Video is so powerful. Its an instant message and sets the tone for credibility.

Once the videos are uploaded you usually get some code that you can use for syndication. You just copy and paste it into blogs, web pages and where ever else you can think of. This code gets read by a browser and pulls it into the page you want from the video database. Its that simple. So you can effectively be in 40 blogs that cover 40 cities. You can also get your footage shown through someone elses syndication.

For example, if someone has the keyword ... COPYWRITER... in their video profile theres a good chance that one of my clips could come up in their blog. The keywords search out for clips that are related and pulls in the ones that are most relevant. This means that if I have the right kind of keywords embedded in my video clips I will appear on their blog.

If you sit down and plot out your campaign you can have some serious visibility. You will be able to pop up in all sorts of areas.

Now if you combine this plus what you are doing with video email the results could be monstrous. You can make a killing in your market place.

Reflections on the DigitalLife Conference

So Who Is At The
Top Of The Heap?

The recent offerings at the Javits Center were substantial. It was a banquet for the senses. You see the entire event was dedicated to digital thrill seekers from across the globe. When it comes to cyber geeks and technophobes - THE WHOLE WORLD WAS THERE....

In the middle of all this wonderful confusion, (sounds of laser blasters and cell phones going off at all times....) was the Web 2.0 section. It sat quietly in the middle of all this amazement. There were only a handful of vendors for this years super conference. But each of them had a different spin on digital video. And that appealed to me.....

The first was
http://www.oovoo.com which offered communication in real time via your webcam. There was a social network component to this that really grabbed my attention. You could scroll through the interface, (which reminded me a bit of Iphones color scheme) and see the moving heads that were looking for someone to talk to. You could call them up and then see your face and their face sit side by side on your monitor and actually have a conversation. This is straight out of the Jetsons. I got a big kick out of that.

The other notable was Hello World,
http://www.VMdirect.com which offers something rather unique. This video email platform allows you to send targeted messages throughout the globe. The technology allows your video to match whatever platform it is played back on. Its pure genius in its delivery. There are some other tools in it that allow you to podcast and do video podcasts.

This is outstanding for business to business communication because its instant.

There is something else though that you may want to consider. And that is shooting for permenant placement of your web pages in the search engines. For that reason we recommend a different
type of Online Internet Digital Video Set Up.....
Source:
http://seotroy.blogspot.com/2007/10/great-digital-video-wave-is-here.html

Instant communication is good. But digital video mixed with strong SEO can actually ground your web pages to a specific area. This is called Geo Targeting of course. But it is unlike what the typical Yahoo topic of the same name offers. This type of Geo Targeting actually takes your page and plops it right in the middle of your town, zip code or county.

This can benefit....

* Real Estate
* New Property
* Autos
* Key Business Concepts
* Squeeze Pages
* Product Demonstrations.....

Overall the conference was very uplifting and showing us new capabilities. Some of them will have long shelf life. Some of them are only here to dazzle you for the time being while greater things show up.

WEB 2.0 GOES VIDEO

Last week I attended the DIGITALLIFE Conference at the Javits Center in Chelsea. The attendance was very good and there were many vendors selling everything from PC's to video games. However the Web 2.0 section was very small. It had at most maybe 6 vendors available tops. Most of what they were selling was advanced digital video capabilities.

Video email services seemed to be very big this year. Also selling these services to a corporate level was very big on the list. What was interesting about this was that not many of them were focussing on getting their BIG PICTURE out to the masses using Search Engine Optimization or even Geo Targeting.

I had my pocket IPOD video with me and showed them a little bit about what I do. This seemed to stun many of the people at the show -- many who were a little confused as to why they hadn't thought of it.

In other words - these vendors were using straight up conventional ways to contact their prospective clients -- aka The Phone.

Still, all in all there was a lot of eye candy at this years event. There is a whole host of incredible tools and entertainment goods coming your way just before Christmas!
